Geotechnical design-build. Build from the ground down.

Connect subsurface investigation, geostructural design, and construction execution. CSA brings those disciplines together for projects shaped by challenging ground conditions and tight construction constraints.

Design decisions with construction in view.

A foundation or earth retention system needs to fit the ground, the site, and the way it can be built. CSA’s design-build approach connects those decisions early.

01

Investigate the drivers

Define how subsurface conditions, loads, adjacent structures, and excavation constraints affect the proposed system. The investigation should inform both design and construction planning.

02

Develop the system

CSA’s capabilities include retaining walls, earth retention, drilled shafts, micropiles, auger cast piles, and excavation support and shoring systems.

03

Review constructability

Integrated delivery and value engineering bring material quantities, construction methods, and practical execution into the design discussion. Evaluate alternatives against the project requirements.

Zoar Road

Hillside stabilization & pavement repair design-build

CSA served as general contractor for a design-build stabilization and road-repair project, carrying the wall design through construction management.

  • The published scope includes roughly 300 feet of hillside stabilization and 0.6 miles of pavement repair.
  • The retaining systems combined beam-and-lagging and plug-pier walls.

Rivercrest

Design-build retaining systems informed by ground conditions

CSA delivered a five-wall design-build package for the development entrance and adapted its pier design to the subsurface conditions reported by the borings.

  • With bedrock below the near-surface soils, the design used piers embedded in glacial soils to resist lateral loading.
  • A soldier-pile wall supported the steep slope during construction, with a modular block wall installed in front.

Walnut Hills Cemetery

Retaining-wall replacement design-build

CSA developed a replacement wall around cemetery access and gravesite constraints, coordinating the design and construction sequence with the project team.

  • The solution used soldier beams with precast concrete lagging panels.
  • Beam spacing and wall placement were adjusted to fit the documented burial-plot layout.

For the planning conversation

Gather the site information before comparing systems.

Kentucky's geologic map offers regional background for early planning. For a Cincinnati hillside project, the city's preliminary geotechnical evaluation handout gives your team a local reference to discuss alongside the proposed grading, foundations, and earth retention.

Good questions.
A better starting point.

What does geotechnical design-build combine?

CSA’s approach brings geotechnical investigation, geostructural design, and construction execution into a coordinated delivery scope. The team defines the responsibilities and proposed system around the project’s ground conditions and construction requirements.

What systems can the team evaluate?

CSA’s capabilities statement includes retaining walls, earth retention, deep foundations such as drilled shafts, micropiles and auger cast piles, and excavation support and shoring. Send the site constraints and design information to discuss suitable options.

Can value engineering start with an existing design?

Share the current design, geotechnical information, performance requirements, and construction constraints. CSA can discuss whether a value engineering review fits the project and what information that review would need.
